Description

This test can help determine a thyroid disorder, which can affect weight, energy, mood, and overall health. The thyroid is a gland located in the front of the neck that plays an important role in your metabolism. This test may identify if your thyroid is overactive (hyperthyroidism) or underactive (hypothyroidism).

Specifically, this test is for Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), and it measures how much of this thyroid stimulating hormone is in your blood, to evaluate thyroid function and/or symptoms of a thyroid disorder. TSH is produced by the pituitary gland in your brain and is one of the most important hormones currently used to diagnose thyroid abnormalities.

This test does not require fasting.
